Treating Genetic disorders can be possible with stem cell therapy

The researchers have found that there are several genetic disorders which can be treated via stem cell therapy. Researchers have indicated that the immune system of mother may prevent the fetus from accommodating the blood cells which are transplanted. This kind of problem can also be treated via harvested transplanting cells from mother. It is one of the exciting and miraculous researches as it provides an elegant and straightforward solution to make fetal stem cell transplantation successful. The researchers have said that they have an effective stratagem for treating the congenital disorders in stem cell before birth.

The scientists believe that stem cell technology is recognized as one of the promising treatments for numerous genetic diseases. The diseases can be treated which are diagnosed in the first trimester of pregnancy which include sickle cell disease and other immune disorders. The transplantation of stem cell include taking healthy cells of bone marrow of donor which in further can be transplanted into fetus via injections. The injections are given with the help of ultra sound which increases the production of blood forming cells. By incorporating this technique, the lengthy immune suppressive therapy can be prevented.

The researchers have also cleared that lots of things depend upon the mother’s immune system. They have noticed a large amount of maternal blood cells in fetus. It simply reflects the fact that over 10 percent of blood cells related to fetus come from mother. The researchers have also found that immune system is completely adaptable to bear foreign substances. They also believed that mother’s immune system plays vital role in fighting with the foreign particles and that it cannot be blamed for any kind of disorders. They also noticed that very small amount of cells travel from mother into the developing fetus and it is an essential mechanism in all the healthy pregnancies. Therefore, it can be said that large amount of maternal blood cells in fetus make the researchers to think that the maternal cells become part of fetus. Hence, this creates an immune response which poses a real barrier to the effectual stem cell transplantation.

In order to investigate this theory further, entire team transplanted fetal mice with some blood cells and that from second strain of mice. The stem cell research team also found that there are several genetic disorders which can be treated via this therapy. Now, it is clear that fetus is completely tolerant to the foreign stem cells; the further research will be conducted to find out the other diseases which can be treated in this way. The scientists also said that this method of treatment can be used to treat muscular disorders to neurological disorders.
